The Other Side

"The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" - Mark Twain

Cliche, but true. A day after the lovely sunny day spent at the farmer's market, the familia and I bundled up and ventured to the cloudy side of town. There are unmarked delineations on the city map that designate whether it's a sunny or foggy area. Locals, for example, know better than to wear shorts to the Sunset, but that they can leave the heavy jacket behind when they hit the mission. So, knowing it would be cold and gray on the west side, I made sure I was warm!

Army Jacket: TNA, Sweater: Crew Cuts by J.Crew, Shirt: H&M, Jeans: J Brand, Bag: Rebecca Minkoff, Necklace: F21

We had warm and filling shabu-shabu before checking out the tiled 16th Ave. stairs. The colorful landmark is a neighborhood effort to create a lovely mosaic running up the hill. Not only is it a unique attraction, but the steps are surrounded by beautiful local foliage with inspiring textures and colors.

Mmm, shabu-shabu with spicy miso broth. Shabuway has the best in the bay, but it's on the peninsula so Shabu House is our city alternative.

Am I looking down the stairs or up them? Only the buildings give it away. Trippy huh?

And now for the pretty flowers and plants...

Looks like an undersea-scape huh?

  1. Great post! I super love those jeans! And you reminded me that I've never seen those steps in all the time I've lived here - adding it to my field trip list ^_^

  2. Does this finally mean that I DIDN'T just keep an entire drawerful of old flares/bootleg jeans in vain? Yay!!

  3. Jen, they're pretty cool, definitely worth the trip/cold. I'm also told the view from the top is awesome, although I admit my 4-inch heels prevented me from actually going up the stairs.

Betsy, throw the bootlegs, but keep the wide leg flares! The 70s are back—again.
