Vogue, Back in the Day

I know these photos are on every fashion blog right now, but I just can't help myself. Besides, if you're anything like me, you'll be happy for a chance to look at them again. Old Vogue covers always make me nostalgic for the glamorous eras they represent. I actually have one hanging in my house, a print I scored from the Alameda flea a while back (see it here). Back then, each cover was different and a work of art. They were innovative, interesting and tested boundaries, all while being absolutely beautiful. What's interesting is that the more rights and independence women have gained over the decades, the more formulaic the covers have gotten.

Pining for Something I Can't Have

There are many things that you can find in every city you go to, no matter what part of the world you're in. But there are things that still remain exclusive to certain countries—at least for now. Unfortunately, one of those things is COS, a high street brand created by the genius' behind H&M. I've only recently discovered COS, but every time I see new looks from them, it's torture because I can't purchase them. I love the clean lines and modern edge which is all topped off by the fact that the line is delightfully affordable. Currently, they only ship to select countries in Europe, but I'm hoping and praying they'll start catering to the US market. Until then, I'll just have to satisfy my cravings with pictures...unless someone abroad wants to mail stuff to me...anyone?

Living in the Past, in the Present

I've had a bit of a British week and indulged in marathon sessions of Downton Abbey and Upstairs, Downstairs. Both cover pre-war Britain before the first and second world wars respectively. I've always loved those eras and the interior design and fashion that go along with them. It's incredibly elegant, with the occasional hints of playful whimsy. I can't get enough of it and am happy to announce both will return for season 2 in 2012.

Meet a Style Icon: Christine Centenera

I haven't been able to shoot outfit photos of my own, so I'm looking at other people's.

Harper's Bazaar Australia's fashion editor Christine Centenera has been a style darling for a while now, but I've only caught wind of her unique look recently. There's something about the laid back ease with which she wears even the trendiest clothes that draws your attention to her. Christine mixes recognizable pieces from the top collections with up and coming Australian designers like Dion Lee.

I would seriously kill for access to this woman's closet. Like my other style love Miroslava Duma, Christine isn't one of those model-like editors and instead stands at a comfy 5'3-ish according to other fashion blogs.

The Style on the Streets: New York Fashion Week

I love street style photos. Sometimes, even more than the runway shows themselves. They showcase real-life interpretations of the top fashion, but in an accessible way. High end clothes mixed and matched with different brands and high street faves. Fashion week is the olympics of fashion, and the height of street style photography. Here are some of my faves from New York.

Meet a Style Icon: Miroslava Duma

Former Harper's Bazaar Russia editor Miroslava Duma has recently caught my attention. Not only is her effortless style playful, but it's also on the cutting edge of fashion. She mixes designer pieces with high street faves like Zara and H&M, wearing both with equal aplomb. Mira also isn't afraid to experiment with color, prints and textures for unique looks that not many could pull off.

Unlike other editors who appear to have been former models, Mira is an icon for petite women everywhere. She wears her clothes as if she was the tallest gal in the room so you'd never guess she's actually shorter than 5'3. I'd credit expert tailoring with her ability to pull off a variety of styles. Seriously, I'd like to know who fits her clothes for her!

Already an international fashion icon at 25, this is a style star who I know I'll be following from here on out!

Meet a Style Icon: Taylor Tomasi-Hill

Hollywood celebrities have taken over the commercials, magazine covers and airwaves, places that used to be dominated by models. But despite their prevalence in pop culture, my style icons tend to be a little more fashion based.

Sure, I love me some Diane Kruger and I'm seriously digging Zoe Saldana and Emma Stone, but one of the people whose style I seriously covet is Marie Claire's style and accessories diretor, Taylor Tomasi-Hill. Her unconventional approach to fashion and uncanny ability at combining different textures and unique pieces for utterly chic ensembles make me smile, every single time.
